What “verified” actually means on GullyDirectory

25 Sept 2026 · 4 min read

Every listing on GullyDirectory sits at one of three trust levels: unclaimed, claimed, or verified. It’s a ladder, and it’s deliberately not something you can skip a rung on — claiming a listing never grants verification, and no amount of filling in your profile does either. Verification is a separate, human check, and it’s worth understanding why.

The badge means a person checked

A verified badge is a claim about the real world: that this business exists, and that the account behind the listing genuinely speaks for it. That’s not something a form submission can prove on its own — anyone can type a GST number into a text box. Someone on our side actually looks at what you send and confirms it lines up with the business before the badge goes on. No listing is verified automatically, and the badge is never sold or bundled with a plan — it means the same thing whether the business paid us nothing (which is everyone, GullyDirectory is free) or has been a listing for years.

Why enquiries wait for it

This is the part that surprises people: a claimed-but-unverified listing looks complete — phone number, hours, services, all there — but the enquiry form on it doesn’t open. That’s intentional. An enquiry carries a real customer’s phone number and what they’re trying to buy; sending that to an account nobody has confirmed is real is exactly the kind of thing a directory shouldn’t do. The verified badge is what tells a customer — and us — that there’s an actual business on the other end.

What to send

Any one of the following is usually enough:

  • A GST registration certificate
  • A Udyam (MSME) registration certificate
  • A shop and establishment licence
  • Any other government-issued document that names the business and its address

The name and address on the document should reasonably match the listing — if your business moved or the listing has an old address, mention that when you send it rather than leaving it for us to guess at.

Verification is checked against the business, not re-checked every time ownership changes. If a listing’s owner is ever reassigned to a different account, it drops back to claimed and has to be verified again — the badge vouches for a specific person representing the business, and that stops being true the moment the person does.

After you claim

If you’ve just claimed a listing and haven’t sent anything yet, that’s the next step — reach us through the contact page with your document and your listing’s address. In the meantime, it’s worth finishing the rest of your profile — hours, services, social links — so the moment verification lands, the page is ready for the enquiries it opens up.
