Five ways to get more enquiries from your listing

14 Sept 2026 · 5 min read

A verified listing with an empty profile still works — the phone number is there, the call button dials it — but it’s leaving a lot on the table. These five changes take a few minutes each and they’re all things you control directly from your dashboard.

  1. Get verified. This is the one with an actual on/off switch: the enquiry form on your page does not appear at all until a verified badge does. Everything else on this list matters more once that’s done — see what verification involves.
  2. List your actual services. Your category says what kind of business you are; services say specifically what you do. A kitchen contractor who adds “modular kitchens,” “false ceiling” and “civil work” as services shows up for people searching each of those specifically, and shows up on their own service pages — pages a bare category listing never reaches.
  3. Keep your hours current. Somebody searching in the evening is looking for whoever is still open, and your page shows “open now” or “closed now” based on exactly what you’ve entered. Hours that are wrong, or missing entirely, mean that signal either misleads people or isn’t there to help you at all.
  4. Show the contact details worth showing. You control which of phone, email and address are public on your page — hiding one removes it from both the page and the data an answer engine reads. If your mobile number takes WhatsApp, add it (or leave it blank to use the same number as your phone) — the WhatsApp button only appears for a genuine mobile number, and it’s the button a lot of people reach for first.
  5. Fix your category and area if they’re wrong. A listing filed under the wrong trade, or the wrong locality, is invisible to exactly the searches that would have found it. This one you can’t self-serve — write to us and we’ll move it — but it’s worth checking, especially on an older, imported listing.

What doesn’t help

None of this is about gaming anything. There’s no way to pay for placement on GullyDirectory, no ranking boost for a longer blurb, and the verified badge is never for sale — it’s a check, not a plan you buy into. The five things above work because they’re genuinely what a customer — or a search engine standing in for one — is looking for: is this business real, is it open, what does it actually do, and how do I reach it.

Every one of these is editable from your dashboard except the category and area fix, which goes through contact.
